My Japanese Learning Stack with Links
I use a combination of tools that cover kanji, grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening, and speaking. Each tool has a focused role.
Kanji
WaniKani Kanji recognition and readings with spaced repetition.
Grammar
Bunpro Structured grammar with SRS and example sentences.
Vocabulary
Anki + Kaishi 1.5k High frequency vocabulary base with custom and tutor-driven decks.
Speaking
iTalki Live tutor practice for pronunciation, phrasing, feedback, and conversation. I do twice an hour per week, it’s great, but probably not enough.
Reading
Tadoku graded readers Beginner-friendly extensive reading graded by difficulty.
Reading fluency
Surasura A tool I built to practice Japanese reading (alpha version for now). Some stories focus on specific grammar points.
Listening
Not enough listening IMO, I should try to listen to podcasts more often. I enjoy watching movies or series in Japanese, but it’s really rare.
It’s been 1.5 years. I’m able to read some simple text (and pronunce it), I’m able to form some very basic sentences. Progress is slow, but still progress.
